Paws & Pours Started as One Event for a Cause – Now It’s Becoming a St. Pete Community

Avery Barnes

What started as a single Sunday event with a simple goal – raise money for Pet Pal Animal Shelter – quickly turned into something none of us saw coming.

Paws & Pours wasn’t just a dog walk.

It became a moment.

And now, it’s becoming a community.

It Started With a Purpose

The idea behind Paws & Pours was straightforward: bring people together, get outside, and support a local shelter that does so much for animals in our community.

With raffles, giveaways and local support woven into the event, the goal was to create something that fest good in every sense, something that gave back while bringing people together.

And St. Pete showed up.

A Walk That Turned Heads

On Sunday, March 22, people gathered at Dog Bar – dogs of every breed, people from all walks of life, all coming together for the same reason.

Some came for the walk.

Some came for the pours.

Some just wanted to do something different on a Sunday.

But once the walk started, it was clear this was more than just a casual meetup. A full group of people and pups moving through downtown St. Pete, turning heads, sparking conversations and creating this ripple effect of energy down Central Avenue.

People were stopping asking what was going on. Smiling. Taking photos. Wanting to be apart of it.

The Energy Didn’t Stop There

When everyone made their way back to Dog Bar for social hour, the vibes only grew. Drinks in hand, dogs running free in their Sun Cruiser bandanas, conversations flowing – it felt natural. Easy. Like something that had been happening for years, not something that had just started.

Between the steps and the tail wags, there was this underlying feeling of connection – not just to each other but to the cause.

From Event to Community

What made Paws & Pours different wasn’t just the group – it was the way people stayed. Stayed to talk. Stayed to connect. Stayed because they didn’t want it to end.

That’s when it became clear: this was the beginning of something bigger.

A space where:

  • People can show up solo and feel instantly welcomed
  • Dogs become the bridge to new friendships
  • The community rallies around a cause
  • And Sundays feel a little more meaningful

A Moment That Reached Beyond the Walk

The impact didn’t spot at the first Paws & Pours event or even at The Dog Bar.

Paws & Pours started gaining attention beyond the event itself – getting picked up by local news outlets and spreading across the community in a way that amplified its purpose even further.

Because when something feels real, people talk about it. And this felt real.

What’s Next

Paws & Pours may have started as a single fundraiser – but it’s no longer just that.

It’s becoming something people are leaning into and looking forward to. Something people want to be a part of. Something that brings St. Pete together in the best way.

And we’re just getting started.

If you want in, keep an eye out for the next walk date.

Register, bring your pup and come see what it’s all about.

Because this isn’t just an event anymore.

It’s a community.
